Command and Conquer Generals: Zero Hour Download

Zero Hour also contains three new campaigns of five missions each, one for each side, with their chronological order being USA first, GLA second, and China last. Unlike the previous campaigns, which were noted by Command and Conquer fans for not having full motion video cinematic sequences during mission briefing, the Zero Hour campaigns return to that Command and Conquer tradition, each showing a live-action video of a news reporter of the respective side giving details about the situation behind the current mission. The plot behind the Zero Hour campaigns picks up where it left off at the end of the previous campaigns.

USA

At the beginning of the USA campaign, the Global Liberation Army (GLA) launches a biological weapon using a refitted Soyuz launch station from the captured Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan at a USA military base located in Northern Europe. The United States Army retaliates quickly, destroying the launch platform, before the GLA can fire another missile. As the campaign continues, the United States learns that a GLA general codenamed "Dr. Thrax" has been developing a more lethal variety of anthrax known as "Anthrax Gamma". When the USA locates his base of operations, they discover that he is planning on launching several missiles loaded with this toxin at major population centers within the USA itself. A swift strike by the USA, with the help of rogue GLA forces, succeeds in preventing this atrocity, and brings an end to "Dr. Thrax".

GLA

In the GLA campaign, the GLA, though disappointed by the death of Dr. Thrax, receives a boost in morale with the successful appointment of their new leader, General Mohmar "Deathstrike". The GLA first attempts to reunite its splintered factions under Deathstrike's command, which it succeeds in doing after eliminating the defector Prince Kassad's forces in Egypt, and then begins a fervent mission to drive the Americans from Europe. Despite their lack of technology, the GLA succeeds in inflicting tremendous harm against the USA, by capturing an American particle uplink cannon which they then use to destroy the USS Ronald Reagan (splitting her in half from port to starboard, as shown in the game's cover) and infiltrating the US West Coast to steal toxins from a chemical storage facility. This reaches its climax when the GLA overruns the USA’s European central command base in Southern Germany, partially with the use of captured Chinese weaponry. The GLA's primary objective accomplished, they now begin to invade a vulnerable Europe and cause a new repressive state.

China

In the Chinese campaign, the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) sends its army into Europe to relieve the USA and gain revenge against the GLA for their humiliating use of Chinese technology in the capture of the German military base. In order to prevent the GLA from making use of advanced USA weapons, China launches a nuclear missile at the military base, destroying it, and then sends its forces into Germany, where the GLA invaders are concentrated. After a series of devastating losses, the nearly defeated GLA takes control of an evacuated USA military base and uses its weaponry against the Chinese army. China succeeds in recapturing this base, and eliminating the GLA for good, rooting out their influence in Europe. Establishing the Eurasian Unity League with the newly liberated Europe, the world looks forward to a new era of Chinese leadership.

Command and Conquer Generals download

Command & Conquer: Generals is a real-time strategy game in the Command & Conquer series. Generals utilizes the SAGE (Strategy Action Game Engine) engine. This proprietary engine is an extended version of the Command & Conquer: Renegade 3D engine. Generals was released onto the Microsoft Windows platform in 2003, and a Mac OS version was released in 2004, marking the return of the Command & Conquer series to that platform. An expansion pack, entitled Command & Conquer: Generals – Zero Hour, was additionally released for PC in 2003, and for Mac OS in 2005.

Generals takes place in the near future. Players are given a choice of three factions to play rather than the two in the early parts of the Tiberium and Red Alert series. In Generals, the United States and China are the world's two superpowers, and are the targets of the Global Liberation Army, a large, well-organized Middle Eastern terrorist organization with the arsenal/hardware of an irregular military force such as the Taliban accompanied by the fanaticism of al-Qaeda. The United States and China are depicted as allies in the series, and frequently co-operate with each other throughout the storyline against the Global Liberation Army, which is depicted as an omnipresent, borderless organization with unclear goals beyond opposition to and expulsion of both China and the United States. The three factions are thus engaged in a war similar to that of the real-life War on Terror.

The player can play any of the three sides in any order, with each side's campaign consisting of seven missions. For the storyline to make sense, the proper order to play is China first, then the GLA, then the USA. In this order, China retaliates for a devastating GLA nuclear attack on Beijing, eventually completely crushing the GLA cell masterminding all Pacific rim operations. (Events such as the destruction of the Three Gorges Dam and the use of China's nuclear arsenal are part of this campaign.) The GLA campaign then begins, with the organization trying to recover from its recent setback at the hands of the Chinese, by raising funds and instigating attacks against their American and Chinese antagonists, eventually culminating in the overtaking of the Baikonur Cosmodrome for the firing of a Soyuz launch vehicle bearing a biological MIRV at a nondescript city. At this point the American campaign begins, in which the USA engages the GLA across several locales, including Baghdad and the Caspian Sea, before defeating a rogue Chinese general supporting the terrorists and tracking them back to their base of operations in Akmola, Kazakhstan.

Age of Empires II: The Conquerors Expansion Download

The Conquerors Expansion also introduced various new gameplay features and tweaks, including the new game modes Defend the Wonder, King of the Hill and Wonder Race. Additional maps, some based on real life geographic locations, and new winter and tropical terrain textures were included. In-game, infantry are able to garrison in battering rams, protecting the infantry while increasing the ram's speed and attack, while ships are able to form formations for more effective fighting.

Micromanagement is made easier, by an improved scripted Artificial Intelligence of villagers and siege weapons. Villagers will now commence automatically gathering resources, if they build resource gathering sites, while siege onagers will not fire if their attack is likely to harm friendly units. Additionally, an in-game option has been added to allow the game to automatically replenish farms after they are exhausted. Chat commands are introduced, in order to communicate more effectively with allied computer players.
A castle in middle age.

The Conquerors Expansion adds four additional single player campaigns. These are based on Attila the Hun's rise to power, Moctezuma's defense against Hernán Cortés and the adventures of El Cid. The fourth campaign, "Battles of the Conquerors," is actually a group of unrelated single scenarios, each based on a significant historical battle. These include the Battle of Agincourt, the saga of Erik the Red, and the Battle of Hastings, among others.

Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne Download

The sign of a truly great expansion pack is when, having played it, you realize you could never go back to the original game. After all, truly great expansion packs don't just add new content--they add real depth, and fundamentally make the core game better. Blizzard Entertainment knows the drill when it comes to delivering these sorts of products. Its follow-up releases for 1998's Starcraft and 2000's Diablo II were so effective and so good that many, many people are still playing both of those games today, all these years later. Given Blizzard's track record with expansion packs, it's understandable that fans of the company's games would have very high expectations for Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne. Last year's real-time strategy game was a very tough act to follow on any number of levels, and yet Blizzard has delivered a terrific, full-featured expansion for Warcraft III that makes an already outstanding game significantly more so.

Mini campaign in Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne.
The Frozen Throne features four single-player campaigns and completely revitalizes the skirmish and multiplayer gameplay.

To say the least, there was a lot to like about Warcraft III in the first place. The game's single-player campaign delivered an interesting and engaging story told from four unique perspectives, its online multiplayer mode was the best in the real-time strategy genre, its four distinctly different factions featured numerous viable strategies and tactics, its gameplay was focused on action and rewarded skill and practice, and its powerful scenario editor let you design your own missions or entirely new gameplay modes using the game's great-looking 3D engine. Basically, The Frozen Throne adds to and improves on every single one of these features, and more.

If you enjoyed Warcraft III's single-player campaigns, you'll be pleased to know that The Frozen Throne offers at least as much if not more single-player material. The campaign picks up where Warcraft III left off, in the aftermath of the banishment of the burning legion. The renegade half-demon Illidan and the death knight Arthas are at the center of the story, as both of these power-hungry characters are seeking to take control of a world already ravaged by conflict. You play the campaign missions linearly, just like in Warcraft III, starting with the night elf sentinels, then moving on to the remnants of the human alliance, and finally taking control of the undead scourge. There are more than two dozen sizeable missions in all.

Battle Realms: Winter of the Wolf Download

Winter of the Wolf is placed in a historical fantasy setting largely inspired by martial arts movies and anime. The player controls a range of military units in order to complete objectives set in a series of campaigns. These units can be commanded to construct useful buildings or fortifications or attack enemy units or buildings. Player controlled units can be grouped together in order to coordinate movement and attacks.

The game is broken down into a series of 11 single-player campaigns and 30 multi player maps. The campaigns start off simple in nature, with the player controlling a single character. As the story unfolds, military units are encountered that ally themselves to the player. In later campaigns, the player can order the construction of buildings and units in order to complete objectives and solve puzzles.
New building in Battle Realms: Winter of Wolf.

Winter of the Wolf features a number of environmental features that were unique at the time. As the campaign progresses, winter begins to set in, changing the terrain from a tundra to a snowscape. Day and night cycles are also present, providing further variations to the campaigns. The musical score is also dynamic, changing according to events occurring in the game.

The story begins with Grayback, the last heir to the Wolf clan's throne, explaining that long ago that life was better for their clan before the storms came and drowned their paradise. They were saved from death by their druidess order using their clan's most sacred treasure the white wolf's skull, given to them by their clan's totem, the white wolf.

The skull guided them to the lands of the Serpent empire where their new neighbors the Serpent and Lotus clan welcomed them as allies but unfortunately they trusted them.Thinking that their lives seemed simple and good again little did they now that Lord Zymeth of the Lotus clan made a deal with the Serpent emperor and attacked them by surprise. The Serpent clan looked away as the Lotus burned their towns and killed their people, many wolvesmen tried to fight back but were unsuccessful, the survivors of the battle became slaves in the Lotus shale mines, ever since then Grayback trained his fellow miners in the arts of war, led them to rebellion and struggle for freedom from the grip of their slave master Mistress Yvaine.

Command and Conguer: Red Alert2 download

Command & Conquer Red Alert 2 is the sequel to the popular 1996 spin-off of Westwood's definitive real-time strategy game. The latest game in the successful series isn't a dramatic technological improvement over any of its predecessors, and its hammy alternate-World War II setting borders on being tasteless. However, Red Alert 2 is a very polished game that combines tried-and-true play mechanics with enough new features, improvements, and enhancements to make it both an excellent sequel and a great real-time strategy game in its own right.

Red Alert 2 retains many of the conventional mechanics established and reused in the various Command & Conquer real-time strategy games. As with its predecessors, Red Alert 2 encompasses most all of the elements that define the genre. You view the action from an isometric perspective typical of most other 2D real-time strategy games, and you play using most of the same exact controls from previous Command & Conquer episodes. The formula still works just fine - you can easily select and move your groups of units, which generally do a good job navigating the game's environments. Red Alert 2 doesn't offer any especially advanced options for your units - for instance, you can't move or array your troops in preset formations, and you can't order your troops to automatically scout or return for repairs and such. But it's just as well, because the units are autonomous in more important ways - they're good about automatically acquiring enemy targets, and they're generally responsive to orders, if only because the game itself plays very smoothly.

Even so, you might initially have some trouble directing your attacks, because it can be difficult to see incoming enemy units on the game's minimap, especially at higher resolutions. Also, when you set units to battle groups, the number corresponding to the group appears a little too large next to each unit; it can almost eclipse some of the smaller infantry. These minor problems may take getting used to, while most other aspects of Red Alert 2's interface just make the game more accessible and more rewarding as you get better at it. For instance, you can set waypoints for several groups of units and thereby conduct these groups simultaneously, though doing so might not always be viable in the heat of battle.

Grand Theft Auto III Download

Honestly, I always feel as if I have to explain that bit, even if 99% of the readers here already feel the same way. Anyway, the most important part of Grand Theft Auto III is the gameplay. For those who haven't ever played the series (GTA1 and GTA 2 on PC and PlayStation), Grand Theft Auto III is a hybrid game comprising driving, shooting, exploring, and in the truest sense, role-playing.

Players start off as a nameless criminal, who in the midst of a bank robbery, is double-crossed by his girlfriend, shot, and left for dead. As the "kid," "friend," or whatever your latest boss decides to refer to you as, you escape from the police through a mysterious high-level hit-and-run, and begin life again with the help of your friend 8-Ball and the Italian Mafia. From there, the game leads players through an odyssey of non-linear missions for various factions of organized crime, from the Italian to the Japanese mafia and on. The 3D world of Liberty City is on a scale that's truly epic, consisting of three large urban areas, the industrial, commercial and suburban districts, each with appropriate architecture, landscapes, and aggressive, distinctive AI.

What makes Grand Theft Auto III so different than other games in the series is the volume of characters, cut-scenes, and story imbedded in nearly every mission, large or small. Players find that their missions are packed with characters who are acted out at a professional level, and who perhaps sound more far more realistic than their simplistically visual caricatures reveal. The game actually does have a beginning, middle and end, too. Players can choose missions from telephones like before, or they can be paged like before, but most often, there are central characters whose missions drive the story, and whose missions tell the story, too. Thus, players find that in amongst the throng of distracting missions and the humungous landscape that must be traversed, there is a central focus, and it's there when they're ready.

Hidden and Dangerous 2 download

One of the first things you learn about Hidden & Dangerous 2 is that it can be very hard work and is best suited to patient and forgiving gamers. Almost everything takes longer than it should or is more complex than it need be. Consider the menus. If you're like many gamers, one of the first things you'll do when you boot up the game is set the options to your liking. When you get to the control options, you'll find page after page of control assignments. There's no quick-reference card or single page in the manual that details them all, so you might wish to copy them down by hand for reference, continually hop back to the settings menus, or search for the details scattered throughout the lengthy manual. What's worse is that a bug can make it fiendishly difficult to change key assignments to your liking.

You'll quickly find that problems aren't limited to the control settings. Throughout the game, many parts of the interface and controls are cumbersome or initially confusing. Games like Splinter Cell have shown how you can enjoy complex character movements with simple, intuitive controls. These lessons were lost on Hidden & Dangerous 2, where you constantly find yourself fumbling or fiddling with numerous controls to switch movement stances, lean, climb objects, switch from a crosshair to your weapon's own "iron" sights, manipulate inventories, give orders, and more. You can easily spend so much time micromanaging that you overlook enemies you would have spotted in other shooters where less button-pressing and menu-navigating is required. Reaction time is vital here, too, since the enemies are good shots in this game. Making matters worse, movement itself, even outside of the control complexity issue, can be hazardous to your character's health: It's way too easy to fall off ladders to your death.

Half-Life: Blue Shift download

Half-Life: Blue Shift is an expansion pack for Valve Software's science fiction first-person shooter video game Half-Life. The game was developed by Gearbox Software and published by Sierra Entertainment on June 12, 2001. Blue Shift is the second expansion for Half-Life, originally intended as part of a Sega Dreamcast version of the original game. Although the Dreamcast port was later cancelled, the PC version continued development and was released as a standalone product.

As with Gearbox's previous expansion pack Opposing Force, Blue Shift returns to the setting and events of the original game, but portrays the story through the eyes of a security guard, Barney Calhoun, employed by the Black Mesa Research Facility. After a scientific mishap causes Black Mesa to be invaded by aliens, Calhoun must fight his way to safety. The game received mixed although mostly positive reception. Many reviewers were critical of the short length of the game and the lack of new content, although the inclusion of a High Definition pack that upgraded the models and textures in both Blue Shift and the preceding Half-Life games was praised.

As an expansion pack for Half-Life, Blue Shift is a first-person shooter. The overall gameplay of Blue Shift does not significantly differ from that of Half-Life: players are required to navigate through the game's levels, fight hostile non-player characters and solve a variety of puzzles to advance.[3] The game continues Half-Life's methods of an unbroken narrative. The player sees everything through the first person perspective of the protagonist and remains in control of the player character for almost all of the game. Story events are conveyed through the use of scripted sequences rather than cut scenes. Progress through the game's world is continuous; although the game is divided up into chapters, the only significant pauses are when the game needs to load the next part of an environment.

For the most part the player battles through the game alone, but is occasionally assisted by friendly non-player characters. Security guards and scientists will occasionally help the player in reaching new areas and convey relevant plot information. Blue Shift also includes a substantial section dedicated to keeping a major character in the story safe from enemy characters, and escorting him to a specific location. A selection of enemies from Half-Life populate the game, including alien creatures such as headcrabs and Vortigaunts. The player also encounters human opponents in the form of a detachment of US Marines who have been sent to eliminate the alien threat and silence any witnesses. As Blue Shift does not elaborate on the storyline in Opposing Force, no enemy characters from the preceding expansion pack appear in the game. Likewise, none of the new weapons introduced in the expansion can be used by the player, they are instead given access to a limited selection of Half-Life's weaponry to defend themselves with in the game.

Half-Life: Opposing Force download

Being an expansion pack, Opposing Force added many new aspects and capabilities to Half-Life's gameplay. It is notable for the introduction of squad-based support. Whereas the player in the original had to rely on composite models of a security guard or scientist, the player in Opposing Force can rely on other soldiers of different classes, including the regular support soldier, a heavy machine-gunner, an engineer, and a medic. Each class possesses unique abilities, such as the engineer being able to cut through certain doors and the medic being able to heal teammates. The AI was improved to allow better coordination of offensive actions during combat.

Opposing Force also included several new weapons. A weapon based on the barnacle creatures acts as a grappling hook. Other organic weapons such as the Spore Launcher and Shock Roach are based on the newly-introduced Race X aliens. In the single-player campaign, some of these weapons replace their old Half-Life counterparts (Desert Eagle - Colt Python, M40A1 - Crossbow, Pipe wrench/Combat knife - Crowbar). However, in the multiplayer game the player can carry both the new Opposing Force weapons and their Half-Life variants at the same time.

Additionally, a new class of security guards was added. Like Barney in the original game, Otis, also named after a character in The Andy Griffith Show, served a similar role. Having the appearance of an overweight and balding guard, Otis can follow the player and provide support during combat. However, Otis is armed with a Desert Eagle, making him much deadlier in firefights than Barney, who is armed with the weaker Glock 17. He also never reloads like the NPC Barney.

Half-Life donwload

Half-Life, a first-person shooter, requires the player to perform combat tasks and puzzle solving to advance through the game. Unlike its peers at the time, Half-Life used scripted sequences, which ranged from small events, such as an alien ramming down a door, to major plot points. While most contemporary first-person shooters relied on cut scene intermissions to detail their plotlines, Half-Life's story is put forth entirely through scripted sequences, keeping the player in control of their first-person viewpoint. In line with this, the player rarely loses the ability to control Gordon, who never speaks and is never actually seen in the game; the player "sees" through his eyes for the entire length of the game. Half-Life has no "levels"; it instead divides the game by chapters, whose titles flash on the screen. Progress through the world is continuous, except for breaks for loading.

The game regularly integrates puzzles, such as navigating a maze of conveyor belts. Some puzzles involve using the environment to kill an enemy. There are few "bosses" in the conventional sense, where the player defeats a superior opponent by direct confrontation. Instead, such monsters occasionally define chapters, and the player is generally expected to use the terrain, rather than firepower, to kill the "boss". Late in the game, the player receives a "long jump module" for the HEV suit, which allows the player to increase the horizontal distance and speed of jumps by crouching before jumping. This is used for platformer-style jumping puzzles in the later portion of the game.

For the most part the player battles through the game alone, but is occasionally assisted by non-player characters; specifically security guards and scientists who fight alongside the player, assist in reaching new areas and impart relevant plot information.[12] A wide array of enemies populate the game including alien lifeforms such as headcrabs, bullsquids, headcrab zombies and Vortigaunts. The player also faces human opponents, in particular HECU Marines and black ops assassins who are dispatched to contain the alien threat and silence all witnesses.

Half-Life has a large array of weapons the player can use. The iconic weapon of the game is the trademark crowbar which can be used for melee fighting as well as a tool for clearing obstructions and breaking apart boxes and crates, which often contain useful items. The game also features numerous conventional weapons, such as the Glock 17 pistol, SPAS-12 shotgun, MP5 submachine gun with an attached grenade launcher, Colt Python .357 Magnum revolver, and rocket launcher as well as abnormal weapons ranging from a crossbow to alien weapons such as Snarks. Two experimental weapons, the tau cannon and the gluon gun, are built by the scientists in the facility and are acquired by the player late in the game. With the installation of the High Definition Pack, the weapons' appearances are substantially updated, mainly due to a larger number of polygons in the models. Although their appearances have changed, they perform exactly the same as their original counterparts in terms of gameplay. The Glock 17 and MP5 are the only two weapons to drastically be changed in appearance, being replaced by the Beretta M9 and M4A1 assault rifle respectively.

Command and Conquer Renegade download

Westwood's Command & Conquer, released back in 1995, is one of the most famous, most influential real-time strategy games ever made. It achieved unprecedented popularity due to its superb gameplay, intense action, and strategic depth--and also its great setting. You'd control the military forces of either of two futuristic military factions--the Global Defense Initiative (GDI), a technologically superior version of the United Nations; or a terrorist group called the Brotherhood of Nod--in an effort to wrest control of the world's supply of a precious mineral called tiberium. Many aspects of C&C were original and memorable, down to the individual military units you'd control. Perhaps the greatest of these was GDI's commando, a one-man army capable of single-handedly taking out legions of Nod infantry and entire Nod bases. Now, that GDI commando is given an entire game to call his own in Command & Conquer Renegade, a solid first-person shooter spin-off of Westwood's classic. The game does have some noticeable problems, though C&C fans may find themselves having too much fun to care. Renegade makes great use of the source material, yet it's suitable both for C&C fans and for those who enjoy team-based multiplayer competition in general.

C&C fans will see some familiar territory in Renegade.

Throughout the single-player mode of Renegade, you'll play as Captain Nick "Havoc" Parker, a special forces operative for the GDI who's cocky and insubordinate and prefers working alone--but he's got more than enough skills to back up his bad attitude. Havoc loses the laid-back Southern drawl of the original C&C commando in favor of a rough-and-tough personality laced with a chauvinistic streak, similar to Solid Snake from the Metal Gear Solid games. Like Snake, Havoc may not be the perfect role model, but he manages to be likable--that's partly because he spouts a number of great one-liners during the course of Renegade, many of which are based on the commando's lines from C&C.

Havoc will need to complete about a dozen sequential missions, all of which are quite big and pit you against droves of Nod troops. Most of the missions center on a rescue operation--you're trying to find a group of scientists who've been captured by Nod. You won't rescue them right away, but at least you'll get to gun down a whole bunch of bad guys while trying to do so. The best thing about the missions in Renegade is that they can give the sense that you're part of a larger battle already taking place. You'll see familiar C&C vehicles--transport helicopters, various tanks, humvees, and more--all taking part in the action. Sometimes you'll be joined by other GDI troops in pitched battles against superior numbers of Nod forces. These moments will make you feel as though you're right there in the middle of an intense C&C skirmish. The fact that the game recycles many of C&C's sound effects helps maintain the effect.

Counter-Strike 1.6 Download

Counter-Strike is a first-person shooter in which players join either the terrorist or counter-terrorist team (or becomes a spectator). Each team attempts to complete their mission objective and/or eliminate the opposing team. Each round starts with the two teams spawning simultaneously, usually at opposite ends of the map from each other. A player can choose to play as one of eight different default character models (four for each side, although Counter-Strike: Condition Zero added two extra models, bringing the total to ten). Players are generally given a few seconds before the round begins (known as "freeze time") to prepare and buy equipment, during which they cannot attack or walk/move (a player can still take damage, having the player drop from a certain height during freeze time was the only way somebody could control the players starting "HP"). They can return to the buy area within a set amount of time to buy more equipment (some custom maps included neutral "buy zones" that could be used by both teams). Once the round has ended, surviving players retain their equipment for use in the next round; players who were killed begin the next round with the basic default starting equipment.

Standard monetary bonuses are awarded for winning a round, losing a round, killing an enemy, being the first to instruct a hostage to follow, rescuing a hostage or planting the bomb.

The scoreboard displays team scores in addition to statistics for each player: name, kills, deaths, and ping (in milliseconds). The scoreboard also indicates whether a player is dead, carrying the bomb (on bomb maps), or is the VIP (on assassination maps), although information on players on the opposing team is hidden from a player until his/her death, as this information can be important.
Counter Terrorist team in map de_dust.

Killed players become "spectators" for the duration of the round; they cannot change their names until they spawn (come alive) again, text chat cannot be sent to or received from live players; and voice chat can only be received from live players and not sent to them (unless the cvar sv_alltalk is set to 1). Spectators are generally able to watch the rest of the round from multiple selectable views, although some servers disable some of these views to prevent dead players from relaying information about living players to their teammates through alternative media (most notably voice in the case of Internet cafes and Voice over IP programs such as TeamSpeak or Ventrilo). This technique is known as "ghosting".

Hidden and Dangerous Deluxe download

Hidden and Dangerous was one of the first of the modern-day "soldier sims", which is to say that it was marketed as a realistic military simulation, a kind of Rainbow Six set in WW2. It was also one of the first major international successes from an Eastern European development team, and helped to establish the Czech Republic in particular as a hotbed of talent. As with the Rainbow Six, Hidden and Dangerous owes a little to the puzzle genre, particularly Commandos, a WW2 game which had been released the previous year.

The soldiers in Rainbow Six were rather like clockwork robots, in that you planned their movements in advance, before the beginning of each mission. Whilst playing the game you could order your soldiers to halt in place, and you could directly take over their movements one at a time, but you had no way to alter their programmed movements. If something went wrong, your plan fell to bits, and there were no way to flexibly improvise. It was as if the game was a simulation of the Soviet command economy. Hidden and Dangerous uses a system whereby you issue orders during the game, and it is this model which has become the standard. It works well, although you generally only use it to move your soldiers towards the action, or order them to watch a certain point, whilst you control them directly during the tricky parts.

There is a diverse range of missions, set in snowy Norway, the forests of France and on a ship in the middle of the ocean. I liked this game, I really did. I liked it a lot. There were more things to like that just this, I'm sure of it. But I cannot recall them now.

Area 51 download

Gameplay involves combat in a first person view, through the eyes of Ethan Cole. Players may either be required to move to a certain location in order to complete objectives, or at later stages, operate a stationary turret against oncoming enemies. The Player will have a team of Hazmat soldiers through the starting levels and will meet security forces on most of the floors that will not follow the player, but will just hold their position. The player's Hazmat soldiers are in fact invincible and cannot be killed unless the story demands it.

Throughout the game, players may use various weapons in order to defeat increasingly larger amounts of enemies. These weapons can be fired using one or both hands for increased firepower. Each weapon, can be used either as a melee aid, or for its intended purpose. Some weapons can also be dual weilded to increase firepower for the player.

In all cases, every weapon has two modes of firing, the first being a regular mode, while the second is a much more powerful mode of firing, (at the cost of accuracy, ammo etc.). Players may also use grenades in combat, one of a human make, and one of an alien design.

At a later stage in the game, once the player is infected, the option to turn into a mutant temporarily is obtained. Mutating offers a variety of benefits, such as increased strength, stamina, as well as the initial ability to fire health-replenishing parasites as well as the later ability to contaminate enemies, both at the cost of mutation time reduction. While in a mutant form, players can easily spot enemies, which would otherwise be cloaked to the regular human eye, albeit with a slight ocular defect.

Players can replenish health and mutagen, health either through the use of medical syringes found throughout the game or by using parasites, and mutagen by melee combat or "using" infected corpses.

A notable aspect of gameplay is the ability to scan and analyze various objects and environments. This is possible by using the scanner present on the player's suit, worn throughout the game. While using a scanner, the player has no access to weapons, apart from melee, and must switch to an available weapon in order to fight. Scanning provides detailed information on a player's surroundings, as well as combated enemies.

The scanner, when equipped, adds a translucent bar to the players HUD, which changes in color and height from light blue, to deep red. This bar indicates how near or far a player is, to a scannable clue, red when the player is very close, and blue when very far. Items which are scanned are viewable in-game, providing insight into the workings of Area 51, as well as proving necessary to unlocking secret videos made by Dr.Cray or Mr.White

Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit Download

With police pursuits reintegrated into the game, Hot Pursuit's gameplay now consists of two categories. The first encompasses standard racing, as it has been in its predecessors, The Need for Speed and Need for Speed II, in which the player is allowed to race against one (including split-screen races) or seven other racers in normal circuit racers, knockouts, or tournaments (which allow the player to unlock bonus vehicles and a bonus track). The second category is dubbed the "Hot Pursuit," where police pursuits are included in races; the mode allows the player to select a standard sports car to race against a single opponent in a police-scattered track, and in the PC version only select a police variation of a sports car to pursue and stop all six racers before they complete their race. Completing both Hot Pursuit challenges in the PC version on every track of the game unlocks additional police sports cars.

Two modes were introduced in the game. The two-player split-screen mode allows two players to race using the same computer, while the "knockout" mode consists of 7 races with 8 racers on randomly chosen tracks, and conditions by the game, according to the selected difficulty, the player have chosen before starting the race-series. (Beginner or Expert) Each race consists of two laps, where the driver, who finish racing on the last place will be eliminated from the knockout. All other drivers are advanced to the next round, and carry on with the battle, until there is only one player left, who technically wins the knockout competition. The game also supports network play through a serial port, modem or IPX,TCP protocols, and internet gaming through TCP/IP protocol.
Pursuit mode in Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit.

Hot Pursuit's pursuit system significantly improved in terms of AI and police tactics over the first Need for Speed. The game now requires that the racer only stop near a pursuing police car to be ticketed or arrested by a police, as opposed to being overtaken by a police car, forcing the racer to pull over for the same punishments. Accordingly, police cars are now programmed with the ability to block a racer's car in an attempt to halt the racer's car. In addition, whereas the original Need for Speed would only have a single police car chasing a racer in each pursuit, Hot Pursuit allows more police cars to pursue a racer, opening up the opportunity for them to collectively stop the racer's car. The police are only playable in the PC version whereas the PSX version lacks playable police. However the police cars can only be playable in the PSX version through hacking with a GameShark and the player must select a car depending if its available in Hot Pursuit mode expect for the Ferarris which the police cars that replace them can only be acessed outside of Hot Pursuit mode and the CLK-GTR and El Nińo aren't replaced either. Once a car is selected when the race starts the player car is replaced with one of the police cars. Even when driving as a police car the cops can still arrest the player.

Tactical aspects of the police pursuits have also been improved. The police have the ability to deploy roadblocks (which simply consists of lining up police cars across the road) and spike strips (which puncture the tires of a racer's car than runs over the strip, and halts the car). Both tactics present weaknesses, specifically, gaps in the blockade that can be used by a racer to avoid collisions with police cars or tire punctures from a spike strip. The player may also listen to police radio chatter on the pursuits' statuses, revealing to them the current locations of racers, police cars, as well as roadblocks and spike strips. The radio chatter also reveal reactions to specific events, such as a racer's collision with a parked police car, as well as referencing the racer's passing speed and the occurrence of the race itself ("It looks like the cars are racing!").

Each track setting features unique police cars, including three sedan-based squad cars, a hatchback and two suvs. The Chevrolet Caprice Classic (for Hometown and Country Woods and sometimes also appears on the Redrock Ridge and Lost Caynons tracks in the PSX version only) Ford Crown Victoria (for Hometown, Country Woods, and Empire City in PC version and Atlantica and Aquatica and sometimes also appears on the Rocky Pass and Summit Tracks for the PSX version), Eagle Talon (for Lost Canyons and Redrock Ridge for the PC version and Empire City in the PSX version), Ford Falcon (for Altanica and Aquatic in the PC version only), Lamborghini LM002 (For Rocky Pass and Summit in the PSX version only) and Land Rover Discovery (for Rocky Pass and Summit in the PC version and Lost Canyons and Redrock Ridge in the PSX version). In addition to standard police cars, a handful of Chevrolet Corvette C5, Lamborghini Diablo, and EA El Nińo-based police cars (PC version only) are also included in each track, more equipped to engage in high-speed pursuits and capable of outperforming normal police cars.

Need for Speed: Porche Unleashed Download

Since its release in the early nineties, the one thing that has constantly improved in the Need for Speed series (other than the graphics) is the amount of cars that are available in the game. The first game featured fewer than ten cars (eight I believe). The latest addition of the Need For Speed series was Need for Speed: High Stakes, which featured a total of eighteen cars. Of course this doesn't include the bonus cars and the almost obscene amount of custom-made cars that have appeared on the Internet.

But now the designers of the next NFS line have a new idea. Decrease the kinds of cars. No that's not a typo, Need For Speed: Porsche Unleashed, due out this spring, will feature ONLY Porsche cars. But that's not necessarily a bad thing, considering you will be able to drive every Porsche ever made.
Interesting game environtment in Need For Speed: Porche Unleashed.

The designers of the game wanted to focus on a driving experience that will guide the player through the evolution of the company, certainly Porsche Unleashed does this. Porsche (the company) has also partnered with Electronic Arts to provide the NFS team the best possible access to the cars, so they can be modeled accurately on the computer. Inside the garage, not only will you be able to customize the outside of your car, but you will also get to see the inside, in full 3D graphics, thanks to the Porsche license.

The game will feature several different modes of play. The first will be the Factory Driver mode where you will play a test driver for the Porsche Corporation. (What a kick ass job!) They will feature courses such as slalom runs and performing tests on the car like controlled skidding and most likely speed courses. (Unfortunately I doubt if Porsche does crash tests on the road ;)) Another gameplay mode will be called Evolution. It will be similar to the career mode in High Stakes. You will start in 1948, when Porsche's first road car was released. As you win races, you can buy new parts and even new Porsche models. But it might not always be wise to sell your old '48 356, keep it for 20 years, and it'll probably be worth more that what you paid for it. Of course, you will also have your quick race where you can race with similar cars or cars from the same era.

Need for Speed: High Stakes Download

The biggest feature added to the game is car damage, which we've all been crying for since the inception of this fine arcade racing series. I'm happy to say that on this count, the game benefits greatly from damage modeling. All cars have ratings for body, engine, suspension, and handling. Too many bumps, scrapes, and crashes will bring those ratings down. At first, the damage is subtle, but once you start racking up the collisions, you'll see the car's body start to warp, the windshield and windows break, and the engine start to smoke. Tires will be off kilter, and you'll notice the performance of your car suffering commensurately. There is no way to fix your car during a race, so you are in a bind should the damage be extensive. There is a status window on the top right corner of your screen, though, so you can monitor your damage and respond accordingly. You might want to be less reckless if you see the red damage-indicator bar overtaking the blue status bar. For Need for Speed purists who don't want to play with damage, this option can be toggled off.

Although damage cannot be repaired within a race, it can be repaired between races if you are playing in the new career mode. Unlike the tournaments in Need for Speed III, this career mode has higher stakes attached to it, if you'll pardon the pun. You start you off with a wad of cash and asked to purchase a lowly BMW Z3 or a Mercedes SLK 230. Then you enter a series of circuits organized into tiers. As you advance through the tiers, you earn more money, which you can use to repair your car between races, upgrade your existing cars, or buy new vehicles. There are three different types of circuits in the career play mode. There are regular races, where you try to amass the most points over three or more tracks. There is a knockout mode, where the last-place finisher in each race is eliminated from the circuit. And there is a high stakes mode, where it's you against one other driver with your cars on the line. Each circuit has an entry fee and offers the finishers varying amounts of cash depending on how they placed. In the high stakes mode, your entry fee is your car, and the prize is the loser's vehicle. It's a quick way to earn a car but also a very quick way to lose one.

Pursuit mode in Need For Speed: High Stakes.
With ten tiers to race, and multiple circuits within each tier, there is a lot of gameplay in the career mode. The career mode also cleverly forces you into making hard choices on how to manage your car and money. Do you pay the $8000 to upgrade your car's suspension and engine, or do you save the money and hope you can win enough in the next race to buy an all-new ride? The additional car damage and repair costs also force you to race a little smarter. In addition, persistence is rewarded, as successive victories unveil more expensive levels of cars, bonus cars, and bonus tracks.

Command and Conquer: Yuris Revenge Download

Don't be compelled to buy Yuri's Revenge, the official expansion to last year's Red Alert 2, just because the box shows a mind-controlling maniac giving you the cold stare--besides that, there are plenty of perfectly good reasons for owning the game. This impressive add-on to the fun and frantic Red Alert 2 does what other great real-time strategy expansion packs, such as The Conquerors for Age of Empires II and Brood War for Starcraft, have done before--it makes an already great game even better, not only by piling on new features, but also by adding enough significant enhancements that the result stands out as being not just broader than its predecessor, but legitimately different. That means Yuri's Revenge will more than likely renew your interest in Westwood's over-the-top game.

The original Red Alert 2 was set during a near-future war between the Allies and the Soviets--a serious-sounding premise, but Red Alert 2 didn't take itself seriously. Actually, the game's sense of humor proved to be one of its strong suits, as it gave the designers license to come up with some truly bizarre units--the Soviets could deploy mind-controlled giant squids, while the Allies had access to elite troopers whose special weapons could literally erase their foes out of time. Yuri's Revenge steers Red Alert 2 even further toward the absurd--most notably, the game introduces an intriguing, all-new playable faction headed up by the titular Yuri, a renegade Soviet psychic. Yuri, played with panache by veteran creepy-character actor Udo Kier, has assembled a truly unusual army composed of various evil gadgets, mind-control weapons, and experiments-gone-awry. Yuri's forces are the enemy in the two new campaigns featured in Yuri's Revenge--one for the Allies and one for the Soviets, each with seven big missions. It's too bad that Yuri doesn't get his own campaign--but you can control his forces in skirmish or multiplayer modes.

Many of Yuri's units are very interesting. His Gatling tanks fire faster and faster upon their targets--if you can protect them long enough, they'll eventually be dishing out huge damage at a tremendous rate of fire. These flimsy units can be great for defense from within Yuri's tank bunkers--immobile fortifications that let his tanks fire on attackers without fear of retaliation. Meanwhile, the mastermind unit, a strange tanklike vehicle, can automatically mind-control any enemy unit that crosses its path--it mind-controls units automatically, but the catch is that it starts short-circuiting if it mind-controls more than three. Yuri also commands legions of Incredible Hulk-like mutants called brutes, which can go toe-to-toe with enemy tanks. He has defensive structures that automatically mind-control groups of units that enter their sphere of influence--truly an imposing obstacle. Plus, he's got a very nasty nuclear submarine in his arsenal. Altogether, Yuri's new faction is very different from those of the Soviets and the Allies--even his ore harvester, called the slave miner, is nothing like the harvesters for the other sides. It's a self-contained refinery, and slave units automatically shovel ore into this armed platform to fuel Yuri's war effort. Like the other two factions, Yuri's side has a lot of personality and largely consists of units that are well designed, memorable, and worth using in most any battle. Yuri's forces are physically weak when directly compared with those of the Allies and Soviets--but they can be used to devious effect.
